In some of the world’s most ancient cultures, the number 9 has long been viewed as a numerical symbol of completion, culmination, and full-circle evolution. Greek philosophy saw nine as the “triple trinity;” a number that represented wholeness or a major goal achieved. In Chinese tradition, it signified fullness and transition. Even in Norse mythology, the number nine represented a complete universe of experience.
Modern ideologies have built upon this ancient symbolism and proposed that our lives move through consecutive nine-year cycles. Each cycle ends with a period of release or a shedding of what no longer serves us and of course, of renewal. As we near the end of 2025, the end of our 9-year cycle is also coming to a close. In these times, we often experience termination in different aspects of our lives and the associated uncomfortable shifts in our energy.
Projects may be wrapping up, relationships could be evolving, priorities changing, and we may experience an inner tension to release what no longer aligns with who we’re becoming. Year 9 is a year of completion and with it comes reflection, integration, and the quiet understanding that tells us we cannot carry everything forward. The end of Year 9 invites us to ease up and take inventory. What habits, obligations, or emotional weights are no longer necessary? Let’s examine how best to clear space as we step into a new cycle.
Moving Into New Alignment
To help us move through this transition with clarity and intention, here are a few grounding questions that are designed to help us review the meaning of the lessons we have learned and simultaneously detach from those old emotional and energetic blocks that had been keeping us stuck. The questions below act as emotional decluttering tools or put another way; as tools to support us as we move into a new alignment.
- What has shifted in my life in this past year?
- What am I ready to release, retire, or lay to rest so I can move forward with clarity?
- Where am I feeling some light in my life right now? For eg.- What strengths, insights, or personal growth moments surfaced this year that I want to carry forward?
Over this past year, many of us have walked through chapters that were anything but easy. It’s been uncomfortable, we have stretched beyond what we once thought possible and at times it has been profoundly painful. We’ve confronted old conditioning, outdated stories, and ways of being that no longer fit. And in doing so, we’ve shed a skin that once kept us tightly constricted.
These are not minor shifts; they are courageous acts of evolution, and they deserve to be recognized with pride. As we move into Year One, let’s carry forward an unapologetic celebration of our determination, resilience, and the inner strength that brought us here; to the end of this 9-year cycle.
Stepping Into Year 1
As we step into Year One, we enter a season of hopefulness. The light has begun to shine through the cracks in the clouds and renewal and regrowth are everywhere. We are quietly optimistic and thinking from our heart’s centre. In other words, the ground we’ve cleared has become fertile soil for new beginnings. The energy here is spacious and forward-leaning. It is encouraging us to explore with curiosity. We can trust our inner compasses, and move with small but aligned actions. This is a year for clarifying who we’re becoming, identifying what no longer serves, and naming a few non-negotiables that will anchor us as we grow.
It’s also a year of initiation: ideas spark more readily, opportunities appear unexpectedly, and relationships shift as we embody new boundaries and clarify our goals and intentions. While this can feel exhilarating and slightly unsteady, it’s all part of recalibration. In preparation, we must ask ourselves:
- Am I clear about what I want to begin?
- Why is this important to me? Am I in alignment?
- Identify three small things I can do that will take me closer to my new goal.
This is a natural process of adjustment that comes after shedding an old skin. Year One asks us to welcome new ideas, strengthen and simplify our systems, begin projects that matter, and honour our intuitive yes and grounded no.
Most importantly, Year One invites patience. This is planting season, not harvesting season. Even the smallest seed you plant now becomes the foundation for the next nine years. Honour what has ended. Recognize the strength that carried you. Celebrate your resilience. And move into this new cycle with clarity, direction, and self-trust. The chapter ahead isn’t just a new beginning; you are already shaping the decade ahead!
