Welcome to November! This isn’t the article I had planned to write, but I felt called to address the elephant in the room. We are in the midst of significant change. Navigating that change, especially during notable societal events like election outcomes, requires flexibility, adaptability, self-awareness, and support.

It’s important to talk about our fears and anxieties. We need to recognize the emotional, social, and practical ways that change can affect us and those in our circles. Let’s start by validating the feelings that often accompany major transitions, ranging from excitement to frustration. As uncomfortable as this may feel, it’s a necessary first step in processing and accepting the new landscape.

It’s okay to feel uncertain; uncertainty is a regular companion of change. When we share our feelings with friends and family we find common ground, and our fears seem somehow more distant. By engaging with supportive people, this helps us foster resilience, both for ourselves and those around us. It’s also an opportunity to share resources, ideas, or simply reach out for solidarity.

In times like this, when change is beyond our control, staying informed is vital. However, information overload can add to stress. To mitigate our stress we could set boundaries regarding how much news we want too consume, and focus on reliable sources to stay updated without becoming overwhelmed.

We always have options as to how we respond to large events. Periods of change are ideal for reevaluating our paths, whether in business or in our personal life. Sometimes, these moments give us the push we need to get moving. When we design adaptable processes, we create  the space to pivot as circumstances shift, which is invaluable during major transitions.

Having a Plan B or even a Plan C provides a framework for multiple circumstances, helping ease anxiety about the future. So too by outlining a path that accommodates different possibilities, we begin the process of acceptance and feeling more secure about moving forward.

Finally, don’t forget self-care. Now is the time to reach for grounding exercises, meditation apps, or journaling practices. Each of these helps stabilize us during times of unpredictability. Resisting change isn’t a productive use of our energy. Try instead, to focus on staying centred, being resilient, and feeling balanced. Managing change isn’t a choice: it’s a necessity.
