Our first two posts in this series have examined the importance of taking a step back, asking probing questions, and developing an awareness of the scope of our challenge when designing a life of our dreams. We’ll continue our discussion of getting clarity on what we want today, in this third and final post in our series on Living a Life of Your Own Design.
I invite you to start today by writing down what you would like instead of the problem, challenge or struggle you have previously identified. Use the following questions to guide you:
- Where would you be?
- What you would be seeing or noticing?
- What would you be doing?
- What would you be smelling?
- What would you be tasting?
- What would you be hearing?
- How would you feel emotionally?
- How would you feel physically?
- How would you be showing up in life?
How descriptive can you be as you create imagery of the situation you would like instead? Can you create excitement about this change that you have been able to create in your imagination? Can you imagine it as if it were occurring right now? Can you increase the intensity of the imagery of this experience so you start to feel excited about what you are creating? What if 10/10 were possible? Take your time and enjoy the experience. Connect deeply with it.
Creativity:
Now let’s take this imagery and excitement and create an experience to generate new patterns and behaviours that will start changing the results you get in your life. Take some deep, slow breaths in and out. Play some lovely background music and close your eyes. Develop a meditative focus, imagine yourself in a place that inspires you, a place where you feel safe. And practice using your imagination to visualize and experience the new situation you have created, that experience of what you would like instead of the original struggle you described. Imagine the results you would like in your life as if the results have already occurred. Practice spending time in this experience. Practice increasing the imagery of this experience to a level of 10/10 on the excitement scale.
Awareness, Clarity and Creativity are the first three steps to starting a process called Dynamic Visioning, an incredibly effective empowerment tool. When we create exciting imagery, and then introduce this exciting experience into our calm state of mind as we breathe deeply and slowly, we are creating a clear target for our mind—and a feeling throughout our body—that creates a new experience. When we experience an event in our mind as if it has already happened, an area of our brain called the Reticular Activating System (RAS) locks in and starts to identify with your internal state of emotional excitement. It seeks to create a match between your new imagery and the feelings that accompany it, and your external world. Regularly practicing this technique can create outstanding results in our life as our RAS goes to work for us. Remember, the stronger the internal state of emotional excitement we create is, the more the Reticular Activating System looks to find a match in your external world. And this is where the magic begins!
Our triggers, stress responses, and unproductive habits can hold our ideal lives hostage. At Dynamic Visioning we are committed to supporting our clients to live an empowered life of their own design.
