Have you ever felt stuck in the overwhelm and frustration of everyday life? Have you ever thought ‘Why me? Why does this always happen to me? ‘ Perhaps you have been trying to eat healthier, balance your life or feel more joy. You just want to enjoy the moment, feel like you have control over your life and plan for your future.

It’s so frustrating and discouraging to try to make change and then find that life challenges just keep getting in the way. It can be such a such a struggle to try to change our persistent negative patterns and unproductive behaviours. Even thinking about making change can feel like too much! If you are not sure what to do – read on and learn about why change can be so hard, and what you can do about it.

What we think affects how we feel and how we act. Our thoughts lead to our feelings. Our feelings lead to our actions. Our actions lead to our external results. The external results we have in our lives originates first from our internal thoughts.

The problem is – most of our decisions and behaviours in life are made and guided not by conscious thought, but driven by our subconscious.

Our conscious thought tells us that smoking is bad for your health, yet lung cancer from smoking is still a leading cause of death.

Our conscious thought tells us that eating sweets can make you a diabetic, yet 1 out of 3 Canadians are Diabetic or Pre-diabetic.

Our conscious thoughts tell us that exercise and a healthy diet will prevent obesity, yet more than 1 out of 3 Canadians are overweight.

Our conscious thoughts tell us that stress increases your risk of heart attack and stroke, yet over 1 out of 4 Canadians report a high degree of life stress.

What drives our subconscious?

Our subconscious is driven by the cumulation of our past experiences, and our beliefs and perception about those experiences, that is stored and hidden away from our conscious minds.

How do we detect or measure the influence that our subconscious play on our current behaviour and thought process?

Stanford University has developed an assessment Tool (ZTPI)  to measure “How our past experiences influence our current behaviour and future outlook on life”.

  • If we want to check our heart health – our tool is an EKG.
  • If we want to check our oxygen level – our tool is a pulse oximetry device.
  • If we want to check our Blood Pressure – our tool is a Blood Pressure machine.
  • If we want to check how our past experiences affect our present and future behaviour, our tool is Stanford’s ZTPI.

The ZTPI Assessment does not solve or fix any of our problems or issues in life. It is simply a diagnostic “flashlight” that shines a light on how our perception of our past experiences and memories is influencing our current behaviour and beliefs.

I felt it would be key to look at triggers for some of my emotions, and behaviours, in order to really make personal changes. If there were triggers which could so easily pull you off track, how much simpler change could be, if one was not having to fight the past.

We conducted the 56 question ZTPI via Zoom, which took a modest amount of time for a big impact! I was impressed with how accurately the findings meshed with my self-awareness, and seemed to fit.

Through skilful questioning, Simone was able to bring me to some very profound personal insights about my past, and how I am operating as a result.

I highly recommend engaging in this process if your goal is more personal awareness and a keen wish to move forward in life, unconstrained by your past triggers and experiences.’
